WHO（世界保健機関）は日本時間の2018年6月18日，ICD（国際疾病分類）の最新版「ICD-11」に，いわゆる「ゲーム依存症」（Gamingdisorder）を盛り込むことを明らかにしたICDはWHOが作成する死因および疾病の国際的な統一基準で，これにより，いわゆる「ゲーム依存症」が新たな疾病に認定される。
