１日午前４時５５分ごろ、岡山市北区の国道３０号で、乗用車が中央分離帯に乗り上げ、金属製ポールに衝突して大破した。車には同市や岡山県倉敷市の中学２年の男女５人が乗っており、同区の女子生徒が車外に投げ出され、頭を強く打って死亡、他の男子３人、女子１人が足の骨折などで重傷を負った。
