バブル期までの地下鉄は夏場、とてつもなく暑くて不快な乗り物だった。本来、地下は「夏でも涼しい」はずが、さまざまな要因が重なって暑くなってしまったのだ。再び「涼しい地下鉄」を取り戻そうと、営団地下鉄が導入したのは「トンネル冷房」。ほんの27年間ほど稼働しただけで姿を消した、幻の装置だ。
