政府は来年５月１日に改める元号に関し、「明治」「大正」「昭和」「平成」の頭文字をアルファベットで表記した「Ｍ」「Ｔ」「Ｓ」「Ｈ」との重複を避ける方向で検討していることが分かった。アルファベット表記は国民生活でも幅広く利用されているため、近代の元号と混同しないように配慮する必要があると判断した。
