若年人口の減少と国内景気の拡大を受け日本企業は深刻な人手不足に直面しているが、国の安全保障の中心的存在である自衛隊員の募集活動は、さらに困難となっている。自衛官の採用数は２０１７年度に４年連続で計画を下回り、防衛省は今年１０月から、募集対象者の年齢上限を２６歳から３２歳に引き上げる。
