初入閣の平井卓也・科学技術担当相は３日の記者会見で、科学的裏付けのない有用微生物群（ＥＭ菌）の利用を目指す超党派の「有用微生物利活用推進議員連盟」幹事長を務めていると明らかにし、「ＥＭ菌を使っている方がたくさんいるので幹事長を引き受けた。中身はよく知らない」と釈明した。
