日本相撲協会を１日付で退職した大相撲の元貴乃花親方（元横綱）の花田光司氏（４６）が４日、東京・永田町の議員会館を訪れ元文部科学相の馳浩衆院議員（５７）と面会した。会談後、元貴乃花親方は「引退報告で来ただけ」と説明。ただ、スポニチ本紙の取材では、馳氏が来年７月予定の参院選への出馬を打診。本人次第で自民党は正式に出馬要請する構えで、希代の名横綱が政界に転身する
