前日７日に４年ぶりの実戦を果たし、ショートプログラム（ＳＰ）で首位発進した２０１０年バンクーバー五輪フィギュアスケート男子銅メダルの高橋大輔（３２＝関大ＫＦＳＣ）が８日、近畿選手権のフリーに出場。フリー１１８・５４点、合計１９５・８２点で３位に入り、復帰戦で表彰台に立った。１１月の西日本選手権（３日ＳＰ、４日フリー＝日本ガイシアリーナ）出場権を獲得した。
