8月に発覚した、バスケットボール男子日本代表選手が公式ウエアを着て起こした歓楽街での不祥事。アジア大会代表の選手たちは事実上、選手団追放となる事態になった。2016年にはプロリーグのBリーグを発足させるなど人気の普及に努めてきたバスケットボール界にとっては大きなイメージダウンとなってしまったが、そもそもプロスポーツの中で、なぜバスケだけは日本で盛り上がらないのか。改めてその理由を考えてみた。
