沖縄県知事選、豊見城市長選に続き那覇市長選でも敗北し、３連敗を喫した自民党。知事選では菅義偉官房長官ら閣僚や重鎮議員を大量に送り込み、国政並みの選挙戦を展開した政府・与党だが、那覇市長選では翁長政俊氏「劣勢」を見越し、選挙戦に配慮する姿勢を示さなかった。
